Orion's Belt

The meaning of Orion's Belt and what it means to me...
The three main stars that make up Orion's belt represent my three great grandmothers. Growing up I was blessed to have my three great grandmothers, and have a special relationship with each of them. Most people that I know were never given the chance to meet their great grandparents. Since time has come and gone two of them have passed away, and luckily one of them is still alive and well. Memere Caron is in her 90's and speeding around the nursing home at record paces while giving everyone in the family a run for their money to keep up with her.

I've always been close to the older generations that make up my family. I've always connected and more importantly respected them. If you were to ask who the best friend from childhood is or was, I would quickly tell you that my Grammy Hughes was. I remember spending every weekend for months on end with my Grammy and Grampa Hughes. Eating raisin brand and bananas with them for breakfast, homemade food through out the day, and of course ice cream for dessert! I would pretend to be a cane for my grandparents and walk them around the house. Grammy taught me how to crochet, even though as a young child I never mastered how to create more than one row, so I would make extremely long jump ropes that would trace the length of the living room! Grammy had the most beautiful white hair, and I would play with it in the afternoon while she would read me her bible or while we were watching Golden Girls. Needless to say I could go on for hours about Grammy! I have never been so affected by someone dying before in my life. Even though it was mostly fun and games at her house, she taught many things about life at such a young age. She is my foundation, and I still look to her for guidance. Her death had such an impact on my life, and every summer I make a trip to her gravestone to visit with her for a few special moments.

Gee Gee Gudroe, was an extremely special lady who was well liked by everyone in my home town. I could always count on her for popcorn balls and candy apples every christmas. She had one of those hideous orange couches with a beautiful afgan on in her living room. She loved having her grandchildren around so of course she had the BEST collection of stuffed animals that anyone could ever ask for. She taught me the true meaning of love through the warmth in her heart that she always had for me, and her hugs were always my favorite.

Back to the meaning of the belt. Whenever I am struggling I always look to the stars for guidance. If it is the right season I can always count of Orion's Belt to be there for me. Even when it's Orion's off season in the sky for the Northern Hemisphere I still look to the stars to guide through various situations I may be facing in my life. My great grammies are my foundation that keep me grounded!

Thankfully enough, my best friend to this day is my Great Grammy Hughes daughter Roxene Caron, my Grand-ma-ma!!

My point is this...enjoy the moments you have with your family members because you never know how long you have with them, or what you will learn from them!!
